Tom Ford
It’s impossible to talk about the creative industry without mentioning Tom Ford. The sole mention of his name is enough to make heads turn, evoke envy, and leave men and women thirsting for more. Not only a fashion designer but a filmmaker and photographer as well, Tom Ford is the epitome of artistry. His journey leading to his illustrious career speaks to his dynamism and influenced his identity as an artist. After dropping out of NYU to pursue acting, Ford was featured in 12 national advertising campaigns simultaneously! However, Ford quickly realized acting was not his passion and enrolled in Parsons The New School for Design where he studied interior architecture. Yet again, Ford recognized that this was not his destined path and interviewed for fashion design positions. He worked for Chloé, Cathy Hardwick, and Perry Ellis before joining Gucci in 1990. Ford’s talents grew and his reputation flourished, resulting in a promotion every two years—an impressive feat for any young professional. Thanks to Ford’s daring visions, Gucci’s sales increased from 230 million to 3 billion. After Gucci Group acquired YSL, he became the creative director for YSL Rive Gauche and YSL Beauty. However, in 2004 Ford resigned because he felt he was not granted full artistic control. A year later, Ford once again shocked the industry by directing, producing, and co-writing ‘A Single Man.’ His highly anticipated film debut was met with high praise and numerous award nominations. Known for his intrepid, provocative, and bold visions, Tom Ford is a true artist. For more information, click here.
