Jil Sander
German fashion designer, Jil Sander is known for her simple , contemporary, and new look as a designer. Sander started out as an exchange student at the University of California, where she then worked as fashion editor for Germans women’s magazine Petra. She then opened her first boutique at the age of 24, in 1967. She soon started to show her collection in Paris in 1975 and from there it was up and down, and her line had never picked up. It wasn’t until the late 1980′s that her line finally started to slowly move forward in the fashion world. In 1978, Sanders perfume was finally able to be marketed and run in high end magazines. Sander created the “layering look” and it became very popular, very fast. After showing her line at more and more shows she finally gained the attention she needed in the 1990′s. Jill Sander AG went public in 1989 and was sold to stockholders, where she used the capital to open stores in Asia and North America. In 1999, Prada Group bought a %75 share in her company. In January of 2000, Sander resigned unexpectedly and returned in 2012 stating “I am very happy and excited to be back. It feels like coming home after a brief journey. The Jil Sander brand is ingrained in my very being.” Sander is back at her company and has released her spring 2013 line at New York’s fashion week on September 11th, 2012.
