William Morris

Kelmscott Tree Pattern

Remembered as one of the leaders during the Arts & Crafts Movement, William Morris dedicated his artistic practice in exemplifying the importance of craftsmanship through his intrinsic textile designs and decorative interior furnishings. During the dawning age of the Industrial period, there was great attentiveness in referencing such expressive designs within the movement to celebrate traditional standards, natural forms and decorative motifs. The intent was to preserve the handmade-practice instead of submerging into the common utilization of mass production. Commonly known for his ability to harmonize the juxtapositions of texture and pattern often sampled in his carpeting and wallpapers, Morris also produced books that sustained his signature ornamental aesthetics. From adjusting distinct letter forms to the presentation of the typography, he would later influence the  standards of future commercial printing and publishing.
