Vivienne Westwood
Vivienne Westwood leapt onto the London fashion scene with her punk rock leather and zippered fashions. Westwood started her career as a fashion designer in 1971 but it was three years later, with the opening of her shop with boyfriend Malcolm McLaren of Sex Pistols fame, that she became a recognized name in the industry. Her career took off from there, dressing the Sex Pistols and showing her first runway collection in London entitled Pirate in 1981. Westwood has developed her brand into an iconic, timeless look, with youthful and meaningful roots. Her British charm and her “I don’t give a damn” attitude never flee from her collections, as she always brings important topics –with her personal opinion — into her work. Westwood has marched to the beat of her own drummer, without ever sacrificing her design aesthetic or outlook for going for trendy. Her punk creations have inspired the likes of Jean Paul Gaultier and style icon Karl Lagerfeld. Now, in her 41st year of designing, Westwood has her contemporary line, Red Label line and Anglomania, her diffusion line, and is a household name.
