Rei Kawakubo
Japanese designer Rei Kawakubo is the avant-garde mastermind behind the label Comme des Garcons. French for “like some boys,” the brand has transformed its numerous shops from the seventies into a global empire with merchandises available internationally. Bringing her early collections to Paris in 1981, the unique designer has maintained her trademark aesthetics of intermixing innovative fabrics, patterns and silhouettes by continuously introducing fresh looks to the naked eye. Having successful collaborative collections with artists such as Merce Cunningham and Fillip Pagowski, and major commercial businesses like H&M, the company has expanded its clothing brand into additional lines targeted for specific audiences. From sportswear to formal wear, to street style designs for both men and women, Comme des Garcons has continuously developed an assortment of signature collections. It is no wonder that this ground-breaking collaborator invited Junya Watanabe, Tao Kurihara and Ganryu to the family. For more information on Comme des Garcons, click here
