Matthew Barney
Multimedia artist Matthew Barney has been known to push boundaries that explore the interrelationships of various mediums. Dedicating his creative intellectual abilities to the innovative approaches within his practice, his ‘Cremaster Cycle’ (1994-2002) exemplifies the artist’s capability to exceed pass the limitations often appropriated within his field. In this five-part film project that includes related sculptures, photographs, drawings and installations, Barney investigates the progression and development of creation itself. An artwork organized by the Guggenheim Museum, the cycle that evolved over eight years has been described as looking “beyond biology as a way to explore the creation of form.” In his most recent piece, ‘Ancient Evenings,’ the artist gave a rough-cut preview to Amsterdam this past June in which the film consisted of seven acts performed live, and dealt with topics of rebirth and the deceased body explored within Egyptian mythology. Guess we have to wait and see till its final debut! Click here for more information about Matthew Barney’s artworks.
